Owl City’s album Ocean Eyes has been certified gold as 2009 draws to a close, making this year a HUGE success for Minnesota’s Adam Young. What started as a project in the basement of his parent’s house has turned into an international phenomenon, sending Adam to the top of the charts and playing to energetic crowds in renowned venues across the US, China, and Japan!
Not only has Ocean Eyes gone gold, but the album's first single "Fireflies" reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 twice and it is still sitting in the Top 5!
Check some other incredible “Fireflies” stats:
*Went to #1 on iTunes in the US AND
Canada
Denmark
Holland
New Zealand!*
*#1 Most Played Video on VH1*
Owl City has graced the cover of HITS and Pollstar and has been featured in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NME, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, Marie Claire, and Alternative Press among others!
Here are just a few snippets from the past year:
USA TODAY:
Artist On The Verge - “…Young belongs to a grand pop-music tradition – the bedroom musical savant.”
Rolling Stone:
Breaking Artist - “…Ocean Eyes is filled with appealing dreamy electro-pop…”
Entertainment Weekly:
“Young’s album Ocean Eyes contains quite a few catchy tunes, so we’re betting radio programmers won’t be leaving Owl City soon.”
SPIN:
“[Ocean Eyes] is pristine pop electronica: synths and strings meld seamlessly into dreamy, summery atmospherics.”
Owl City has toured extensively this year to great reviews, like this one from his New York show back in September:
The Village Voice:
“Owl City…gets a more intense reaction from a Bowery Ballroom crowd than even Nine Inch Nails did…too infectious to resist.”
So what’s up for next year?
Owl City will hit the road on a Winter headlining tour of the US that is already sold out! Then, the band will head overseas for a headlining tour of the UK and Europe and then over to Australia and New Zealand where they’ll be joining up with Cobra Starship.
If 2009 is any indication of what’s to come, expect big things from Owl City in 2010 and stay tuned for all the exciting updates!
